CATHERINE FINUCANE
postpartum doula
Catherine has resided in San Francisco for many years, during which she observed the struggles of her immigrant friends as they navigated the complexities of becoming first-time parents or expanding their family. Recognizing the overwhelming nature of these experiences in the absence of adequate support, Catherine was inspired to help. Her research revealed a multitude of families who could greatly benefit from this sort of assistance, igniting her journey towards becoming a Postpartum Doula.
HER VISION... Catherine is dedicated to providing education, unbiased support, companionship, and assistance with newborn care and family adjustment. As a Postpartum Doula, she offers evidence-based information on a variety of topics, such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery after childbirth, infant soothing techniques, and coping skills for new partners. She also makes appropriate referrals when necessary.
Catherine sees her role as a means to enhance the parenting experience, acting as an extension of the parents themselves.
Originally hailing from Ireland, Catherine has made San Francisco her home for the past 15 years.
Catherine came into our lives in December 2018 on the night that we brought our twins home from hospital. Straight away, she proved herself invaluable. She was such a reassuring, calm presence. I had so many questions, I didn’t know how to prepare bottles or sterilize them but she knew it all. She thought me so much, she spotted our son had silent reflux when we didn’t even know that was a thing. Catherine was with us for three months and never once did she falter. She helped us create a routine for our children before she left and was a joy to have around the house. Catherine came back to us for our third child in January 2020. We couldn’t have done it without her! Although we knew more this time around, Catherine was again incredibly helpful, kind and lovely to have around the house. Any family would be lucky to benefit from her knowledge and experience. I can’t recommend her highly enough! - Ciara
